Pittsburgh Water is responsible for providing safe, reliable water services to the city of Pittsburgh. It manages the treatment and distribution of drinking water, the collection and conveyance of wastewater, and the control of stormwater systems throughout the area.
Pittsburgh Water operates a complex network of infrastructure, including reservoirs, pump stations, and miles of underground pipes, to ensure clean water reaches homes and businesses while protecting local waterways from pollution. Pittsburgh Water’s infrastructure comprises approximately 965 miles of water lines, five reservoirs, and 11 tanks with a storage capacity of 455 million gallons, producing about 65-70 million gallons of water daily. Pittsburgh Water manages an extensive sewer and stormwater system that spans approximately 1,200 miles of underground sewer lines, around 25,000 catch basins, and has completed 29 green infrastructure projects around the city to manage stormwater runoff.
