About Career Ready Allegheny

Career Ready Allegheny was built in response to the feedback of local superintendents, employers, and over 300 educators and counselors. Leading partners include Partner4Work, the Allegheny Intermediary Unit 3, the Consortium for Public Education, and Remake Learning. Together, we are working to foster an ecosystem where students can thrive, developing the skills and confidence they need to navigate their career paths into our local economy. Workforce Challenges in Allegheny County

Workforce development in the Allegheny, PA area faces several unique challenges that require targeted solutions to ensure all residents have access to meaningful employment opportunities. The Challenge:

Skill gaps in emerging industries for students within the Allegheny County Area.

The Solution:

Partner with local educational institutions and industry leaders to create targeted training programs that align with the needs of emerging industries like technology and healthcare. By offering courses and certifications that address specific skill gaps, we can better prepare the workforce for high-demand roles.

Limited access to career resources for youth or young adults looking to begin their career path.

The Solution

Explore resources featured on Career Ready Allegheny such as PA CareerLink®, that can provide job search assistance, resume-building workshops, and interview preparation to help residents from all backgrounds pursue their career goals.

Underemployment and workforce mismatch between employers in the area and young adults who are ready and willing to work.

The Solution:

Support career counseling and job placement services that focus on matching individuals’ skills and interests with appropriate employment opportunities. By collaborating with local employers, we can identify job openings that are a good fit for underemployed workers and help them transition into roles that better utilize their talents.

Barriers to employment for student and young adults entering into the workforce.

The Solution:

Offer internships, co-op opportunities, and job shadowing experiences that provide real-world exposure. Additionally, support services such as mentorship programs, resume workshops, and assistance with transportation and balancing work and school commitments can help students overcome barriers to starting their careers.

Career Ready Allegheny seeks to grow in partners and users, ensuring students are offered quality work-based learning opportunities, educators have access to career exploration materials, and employers can easily interact with schools, engaging with the community, and introducing their industry to the future workforce.
